Meeting behind closed doors this week, the Republican National Committee is considering whether or not to endorse former president Trump in the early stages of the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race. Some Trump supporters had wanted to do just that.

Despite public criticism from several committee members who felt the resolution was too soon, Trump quickly shot down the idea.
Trump said on Truth Social, his social media site, that he believes the Republicans should not move forward with the proposal, even if they have more votes than are needed to accomplish it. He stated his position in the sake of party unity.
In a change from previous procedures, the press will not be allowed entry to the whole meeting from Tuesday through Friday. Usually, after a series of meetings on rules, resolutions, and budget, there is at least one open public session when the chair gives a statement. However, in the last two years, there have been a few closed sessions as well.
