The RNC will meet quietly after Trump backers remove resolution calling him ‘presumptive nominee’(Part-1)

Meeting behind closed doors this week, the Republican National Committee is considering whether or not to endorse former president Trump in the early stages of the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race. Some Trump supporters had wanted to do just that.

Party insiders stated that prior to this week's committee meeting in Las Vegas, a resolution to proclaim Trump the presumptive nominee was taken off the agenda.

Trump is the clear favorite in the Republican race after the first two early-state contests, but former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley has vowed to keep fighting the good fight. This turn of events comes as the field has narrowed down to two big contenders.

Last week, the resolution submitted by David Bossie, a committeeman from Maryland, to proclaim Trump the probable nominee went public, temporarily elevating what was supposed to be an unremarkable RNC winter meeting in Las Vegas this week to a higher level of interest.

After advising Trump's team throughout their pursuit of a second impeachment following the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, Bossie served as Trump's deputy campaign manager in 2016.

Despite public criticism from several committee members who felt the resolution was too soon, Trump quickly shot down the idea.

Trump said on Truth Social, his social media site, that he believes the Republicans should not move forward with the proposal, even if they have more votes than are needed to accomplish it. He stated his position in the sake of party unity.

In a change from previous procedures, the press will not be allowed entry to the whole meeting from Tuesday through Friday. Usually, after a series of meetings on rules, resolutions, and budget, there is at least one open public session when the chair gives a statement. However, in the last two years, there have been a few closed sessions as well.
